Miley Cyrus isn’t always straddling plastic penises and causing chaos on her Bangerz Tour. Sometimes, Ms. Cyrus likes to slow it down a little.

That’s why Miley covered Jeff Buckley’s “Lilac Wine” in Melbourne. On Monday, she released the live version on her SoundCloud. Prepare to be blown away.

It’s certainly no “We Can’t Stop.” While I like both sides of Miley, it’s refreshing to be lifted from her go-hard, party-all-the-time vibe to see her getting back to her roots. She previously covered this song in her Backyard Sessions in the days before Bangerz. This one seems more free from mixing, trimming and smoothing, and Miley seems to like it more, tweeting that she’s “evolving.”

She speaks with the smooth, adjective-heavy confidence of many young stars. Indeed, she graduated from a similar tween finishing school to the Disney alumna Miley Cyrus – two Nickelodeon TV programmes, Victorious and Sam & Cat, ensured the inevitable pop career had a ready-made fan base. Unlike Miley, Grande courts no such wanton controversy. But they do have much in common, not least their age and their hypoglycaemia. Grande didn’t know that Cyrus also has the condition and says that her low blood-sugar levels have improved since she went vegan. Having interviewed Cyrus, I tell her that, in conversation, they share a similarly speedy speaking style and sparky manner.

‘I love her so much,’ Grande beams. ‘She’s a beautiful soul.’

Does she think Cyrus is transitioning well from her teen career to the adult world?

‘Absolutely. She’s so authentic, and so unapologetic,’ she says of Cyrus, who has been open about her love of marijuana and who recently stepped out during New York Fashion Week in little more than nipple pasties. ‘It’s great. She’s so happy. That’s something to be celebrated. People get mad at her for being herself. But she’s happy. And they,’ she adds pointedly, ‘are probably not.’

She may be known for her outrageous antics, but Miley Cyrus insists that she isn’t a bad role model.

The 21-year-old singer has hit back at those who claim her new (well, it’s not that new anymore) image wasn’t appropriate for her younger fan base by insisting that above all she is always polite – unlike some of her fellow female peers.

Just WHO could she be talking about?!

Speaking to Yahoo 7 TV’s Sunrise Australia today, Miley explained her ethos on how she treats others.

She said: “It really doesn’t bother me when people say I’m crazy because I am! My dad has always taught me that it should always be about the way you treat people.

“There are many girls that I know who are in this industry who come out, sit like this, and be all polite, but in person, they’re not so polite and they’re not so kind.

“I hope all the time, I’ve heard that it is, that my reputation is a good one. I say hello to everybody and I treat everybody the same. I actually treat people at the bottom of the list much better than the people at the top because the people at the top already have enough people sucking up to them.”

Hear, hear, Miley!

The We Can’t Stop singer also opened up about coping with fame – explaining that it doesn’t affect her because she’s been around it for so long.

“I grew up in this world so fame and money and knowing what they give you, which isn’t a lot even though people think it is a lot, I think people get really wrapped up,” she explained.

“At the end of it people can be the most famous and rich people in the world and have all this stuff but they’re not really that happy. And so I just decided that about a year ago my whole life’s goal was just to be happy all the time.

“Unfortunately it’s hard. I was telling my fans the other day that if you’re sad just live in that moment and be sad.

“It can be something that is internal and you can work through it. Everyone is just trying to rush out of their emotions. If you’re feeling good, feel good. If you’re feeling sad just be in it. Even though it’s cheesy just be in the moment.”

We have to say, we are loving this side of Miley. Good on you, girl!

Australian fans take heart: Miley Cyrus hasn’t tamed herself one bit, at least as evidenced by her appearance in Sydney early Monday morning, where she rocked the city’s iconic Opera House with a show some of her biggest hits exclusively for the morning program Sunrise.

Cyrus hit the stage in a gleaming green robe, which she eventually threw off to reveal a truly weird hot-pink leotard decorated with a grinning face. Cyrus also got her wrecking ball rolling immediately by greeting the crowd with an F-bomb (“Good f—ing morning!”), as well as showing off her brand-new dance move, the Nay Nay, which has officially usurped the Twerk.

And of course, Miley being Miley, there’s more. In a wide-ranging interview with Sunrise’s hosts, Cyrus (back in her glittery green robe) promptly continued her “shock streak,” discussing everything from her philosophy of life to growing up around country-music icons.

She noted she had just received a new tattoo, the Chinese mythological character Wukong the Monkey King (a tribute to little brother Braison). Additionally, she poked a little fun at herself, saying if she weren’t a singer she’d like to be a stand-up comedian.

“I am the joke; look at me… I’m a walking joke,” she cheerfully admitted to the hosts, indicating her colorful get-up. “It really doesn’t bother me when people tell me I’m crazy because I am. … I grew up around people like Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton, and those people are not normal.”

On a more serious note, the 21-year-old says her life’s goal is to be “happy all the time,” a lesson she’s learned from her father, Billy Ray Cyrus.

She also indicated she does care about her reputation — but not in the exact way you’d expect. She’s more concerned with being genuine and genuinely kind to others.

“I’m too honest,” she claimed. “I have heard, my reputation is a good one. I say hello to everybody and I treat everybody the same. I actually treat people at the bottom of the list much better than the people at the top. Because people at the top already have enough people sucking up to them.”

Cyrus also gave the Sunrise hosts a little lesson in how to look cool on the dance floor. “Some people are living in the past,” she said dismissively, when her infamous “twerking” was brought up. She then showed off step-by-step instructions on how to do the Nay Nay — a dance that simply involves raising one hand and waving it side to side while doing a squatting move.

She’s a woman of consummate talents and it looks like Miley Cyrus can add another one to her list, tattoo artist.

The 21-year-old returned to her favoured Sydney parlour the Hunter And Fox on Tuesday night to play tattooist as she and artist Lauren Winzer took it in turns to ink one another.

Lauren posted a snap of the pair posing in the parlour, tagging it: ‘Tattie swap with the realist pineapple in the game @mileycyrus’.

In the shot Miley, dressed in a black jumper with Discount Universe emblazoned on it, is sticking out her tongue in her trademark fashion while holding up her left inner arm.

Proudly showing off her new artwork, it looked as if the female friends had taken it in turns to ink one another.

A second shot revealed Miley had turned tattooist as she held the ink gun bent over Lauren’s lower arm in deep concentration.

And the inking session didn’t stop there, Miley’s brother Braison also showed off his inks on social media – one read ‘MRC’ his sister’s initials and another featured a bird of prey.

It seems Miley can’t keep away from the tattoo parlour as on Monday she was also caught hanging out while her friend and assistant Cheyne Thomas as he got a pineapple piece on his arm.

Miley struck her signature pose as she poked her tongue out for the camera, while Cheyne and Lauren smiled on either sides of her.

She stroked her freshly braided blonde locks, and Cheyne later took to social media to show off his newest piece, which is of a pineapple.

She got some new body ink days into the Australian leg of her Bangerz world tour.

And on Monday night Miley Cyrus found herself at a tattoo parlour once again.

The 21-year-old accompanied her friend and assistant Cheyne Thomas as he got a pineapple piece on his arm, with the duo seen in an Instagram post at the Hunter And Fox Parlour in Sydney with tattoo artist Lauren Winzer.

Miley struck her signature pose as she poked her tongue out for the camera, while Cheyne and Lauren smiled on either sides of her.

She stroked her freshly braided blonde locks, and Cheyne later took to social media to show off his newest piece, which is of a pineapple.

The Wrecking Ball songstress also shared a snap from the evening, Instagramming a selfie of herself under a disco ball in the parlour with the caption ‘sanginnn.’

On Thursday night Miley and her brother Braison both had work done at Eureka Rebellion Tattoo Parlour in Melbourne’s Collingwood, with the duo reportedly getting sibling tattoos.

Anthony Allayialis, owner of Eureka Rebellion, told Daily Mail Australia that Miley was a ‘lovely’ girl and that ‘we had a couple of beers and hung out, just had a chat. Wonderful girl.’

Explaining that she got a small script design while Braison opted for a larger piece, he speculated ‘I believe [the tattoo] was something to do with her brother, they got sibling tattoos.’

She jetted to Sydney on Saturday and has spent much of her time in the city in her hotel room.

On Monday she used her down time to write some new tunes, Instagramming a selfie to her 13 million-plus followers with the caption ‘gonna go write songs.’
